Goal Check In
With the kids heading back to school,we’re all getting into our new/old routines. One of the ways I like to do this is to review the goals I’ve been tracking since January.
What? You haven’t looked at your goals since February? Why is that?
Way back in January you were swept up in the freshness of the new year. Any thing seemed possible. By February or March your goals have migrated to the bottom of the pile because life took over. New priorities sprouted with spring. By the time summer came along, you forgot what pile they were in.
Reacquaint Yourself With Your Goals
Why not use September to dig through that pile and find those goals from January. You might be surprised. Here’s what happened to me.
Like you,I wasn’t tracking all of my goals as well as I could have. I was sidetracked by summer and conference planning. A couple weekends ago,I decided to pull out my planning calendar from January. As I opened it I cringed because I didn’t want to see how far off I’d drifted.
September didn’t look too bad. I had to add in a couple workshops, but otherwise was on track. Then I turned to October. As part of my January plans,I wanted to do an all day event sometime in 2011. Back in the winter I started to do some research, but then got distracted.
When I looked at the October calendar,I was shocked to see I originally planned my all day event nine months earlier the day after we were now planning our full day conference! It was pretty amazing!
You May Have Accomplished More Than You Thought
It just goes to show you that you’re always working on your goals even when you may not think you are. Take some time this month as you get back into the swing of things to see how far you’ve progressed in your goals. You might not be exactly where you wanted to be,but I’ll be you’re further along than you would have been without setting the goal.
Let me know what you find out!
