Sacred Space

My Sacred Space

Most mornings I journal.  What I write about isn’t as important as writing.

This morning I pondered why this daily ritual was so important.  The truth is, my journal is my sacred space.  When everything seems to be moving at the speed of light, I know each morning, there is a friend patiently waiting just to listen to me.

A sacred space is an oasis in your life where you can sit back and reflect without interruption.  It doesn’t matter whether it is a church, temple, or the ocean going there reminds you to slow down and listen to the wisdom of your inner voice.

I often crave time alone to decompress.  Just like you, I have whirlwind days.  After a 12-14 hour day I thankfully flop into my bed falling asleep after barely closing my eyes.  Alone time consists of driving from place to place.

When I don’t journal I feel out of sorts.  I get grumpy and frustrated.  Give me some peppermint tea and my journal in the quiet early morning hours and all becomes right with the world.

This week notice what sacred spaces you have created.  They don’t have to be traditional. Cooking sauce from a family recipe.  Reading a favorite novel.  Watching a fire glow in the fireplace.  It doesn’t matter where your sacred space is.  All that matters is you recognize the wonderful gift it brings into your life.

Meditation Anywhere

Meditation is refreshment,If we bump into each other at the gym, fair warning, I might be on the treadmill with my eyes closed so don’t laugh.

I know I am on the treadmill to get my heart pumping, I’ve found a different goal…meditation.

It sounds crazy, right?  Why would you meditate at the gym?

Let’s be honest, being on a treadmill isn’t the most stimulating mental activity so I began listening to audio books.  One stressful day, I decided to meditate, and my world shifted.

Treadmill time is my daily mini vacation.

Taking small breaks, helps you stay focused. They make you feel re-energized.  This week, try to take 15 minutes during the day and do something just for you.  Read a chapter in an inspiring book.  Have a quiet cup of tea somewhere beautiful.  Take a walk in nature.

Whatever you choose for your meditation vacation, do so with love.  Let go of the day for those few minutes.  You’ll come back a different person.

Love Yourself

Love yourself Charlie Chaplin Quotes

Happy Upcoming Valentine’s Day to You!

This Valentine’s Day, I want you to make a special effort to love yourself, and then others in your life. So often, especially women, you go through your Valentine’s Day checklist and think of everyone except yourself.

You make sure the kids have their Valentine’s for school. You make cookies for the family or a special meal. You buy your significant other something they love. By the end of it all, you are exhausted which makes it hard to see all the beautiful things they have done for you.

This year, I want you to start your Valentine’s Day by reading this poem by Charlie Chaplin

As I began to love myself I found that anguish and emotional suffering
are only warning signs that I was living against my own truth.
Today, I know, this is “AUTHENTICITY”.

As I began to love myself I understood how much it can offend somebody
As I try to force my desires on this person, even though I knew the time
was not right and the person was not ready for it, and even though this
person was me. Today I call it “RESPECT”.

As I began to love myself I stopped craving for a different life
and I could see that everything that surrounded me was inviting me to grow. Today I call it “MATURITY”.

As I began to love myself I understood that at any circumstance
I am in the right place at the right time, and everything happens
at the exactly right moment. So I could be calm.
Today I call it “SELF-CONFIDENCE”.

As I began to love myself I quit stealing my own time
and I stopped designing huge projects for the future.
Today, I only do what brings me joy and happiness, things I love to do
and that make my heart cheer, and I do them in my own way and in
my own rhythm. Today I call it “SIMPLICITY”.

As I began to love myself I freed myself of anything that is no good for
my health – food, people, things, situations, and everything that drew
me down and away from myself. At first I called this attitude
a healthy egoism. Today I know it is “LOVE OF ONESELF”.

As I began to love myself I quit trying to always be right, and ever since
I was wrong less of the time. Today I discovered that is “MODESTY”.

As I began to love myself I refused to go on living in the past and worry
about the future. Now, I only live for the moment, where EVERYTHING
is happening. Today I live each day, day by day, and I call it “FULFILLMENT”.

As I began to love myself I recognized that my mind can disturb me
and it can make me sick. But As I connected it to my heart, my
mind became a valuable ally. Today I call this
connection “WISDOM OF THE HEART”.

We no longer need to fear arguments, confrontations or any kind of problems with ourselves or others. Even stars collide, and out of their crashing new worlds are born. Today I know THAT IS “LIFE”!

Summer Sunshine

Summer Sunshine

There’s nothing better than waking up to a sunny summer day.

Summer sunshine is invigorating.

Unlike it’s cousin the sunny winter morning, there is a lightness about a summer morning where all things seem possible.  It wakes you up from your winter hibernation.

Summer sunshine slows everyone down.

No matter how busy, when you step into the warm summer air, shoulders relax.  For a brief moment the cares of the world float away with the the puffy clouds on their sea of deep blue. Without notice the cool breeze wisps by bringing you out of your reverie.

Summer sunshine heightens your senses.

You see the sparkling of the lake, hear the morning birdsong, and smell the freshly cut grass.  Your body becomes one with its surroundings as if you dove into it like a pool experiencing it from head to toe.

Relish the summer sunshine.

Summer sunshine is a gift easily missed.  Submerge yourself in its wonder.  Explore its hidden gems.  Become awash in its beauty.

Healing In The Midst of Craziness

After a week that felt turned upside down, Friday I had an amazing healing experience.

I was part of a wonderful drumming circle where we not only got messages for ourselves, but sent healing and compassion out to the world.  There were only a few of us in the room, yet the power and energy created was magical.

Getting Back to Normal

If you’ve been through a deeply spiritual experience; a birth, a death, a healing you know how hard it is to “get back to normal.”  I’ll never forget when my mom passed away 5 years ago, how surreal the world felt after the funeral.  The next day everyone seemed to get back into their routine.  I, however, wasn’t sure what that was any more.

I had the same experience about a year after that coming back from a retreat in Sedona.  Integrating back into the physical world was hard, like coming back from a very long vacation and feeling a bit disoriented.  All the crazy to do’s you had before the trip, don’t mean much when you get home.

That’s how I’m feeling this weekend.  Yesterday I felt lost.  What I read on social networks seemed trite.  What I saw on television very flat.  Nothing had a lot of meaning.

The Healing Process: Figuring Out Normal Again

This is normal.  It’s part of the healing process.

When you have a life changing experience, you are given the opportunity to recreate your normal.  It’s one of the only times, you naturally can change a value or priority in your life.

If you’re feeling out of sorts, that’s okay.  Know that you’re just trying to figure out what normal is.

Let Go Of What’s Not Important

Treasure this time instead of fear it.  Don’t jump back into the same routine.  This is time for you to heal more than just what’s happened in your life.  It’s a time when you can heal so much more.

If your life doesn’t allow downtime, notice how things feel.  If they feel out of place, then try to remove them.

For example I’d been wanting to give up coffee for a while, but wasn’t able to make progress.  After the events here in Boston, I just stopped.  It didn’t seem to fit any more in my life.

Notice what now feels forced.  If it was something you wanted to let go before but you couldn’t, now may be the time.

Becoming Sound and Healthy Again

Healing means to become sound and healthy again.  If that means giving up things that didn’t serve the sound and healthy lifestyle you desire, now is a good time to let go.  You’re psyche is ready.

Additional note:

I thought I would share the reaction to the healing session we had from the owner of Andeva Wellness who organized the event.

When I looked around I looked into the people that where here today. I did not see their clothes, or
hair, their possessions or even if they were male or female. Instead, I was present to who they were on
a soulful level. We had an Eagle Sore, a multi-generation of beautiful yellow light grace us, a group of
spirits flying with their white lights and the amazing presence of Jesus himself illuminated our circle. We,
as a group, intended to reach far beyond Andeva Wellness Center with our prayers and our healing and
we did. When put together as a collective whole it is amazing what can transpire. There was also a group
healing that occurred simply because it was needed in the moment. Being connected and feeling the
light work through you, but not because of you, knowing you are a vessel for what is possible, is truly
doing God’s work. When one has the opportunity to be a part of something so special your perspective
changes forever. One starts to know what is possible and creates a space for more Light and Love to
enter. I am forever grateful to be on the journey that I am on and also for all the amazing and wonderful
souls that are sent to share my journey. Continue to grow, be open and search for a soul near you today.

What Is Love?

What is love

In my conversation with God today, I asked, “What is love?”

With all the craziness going on, I was confused.  More accurately I was afraid.  I couldn’t feel what I thought I should feel when I wanted to invoke love.  So I took it to the expert.  Here’s the response I got.

Love is only a word you’ve come to describe a sensation or feeling.  It’s much more than the four letters you’ve assigned to represent something so large.

Love simply put is the energy of creation.

  • It’s growth.
  • It’s life.
  • It’s caring for and nurturing.
  • It’s compassion.
  • It’s authenticity.
  • It’s bliss.
  • It’s awe.
  • It’s sincere.
  • It’s gentle.
  • It’s kind.

Most important, it is unconditional.  Since love is energy, it can never be destroyed.  There are no conditions in which it can not exist.

Wayne Dyer quotes A Course In Miracles:

Everything that’s love can’t be fear, and everything that’s fear can’t be love. You’re either in one or the other.

I choose love.

I am love.  You are love

Authentic Reflection

I may not be as thin as a model,

As smart as a scientist,

As business savvy as an analyst.

But…

I am the best me there is.

What others see as flaws,

I see as beauty.

What others doubt,

I dream.

I may not meet your expectations.

That’s okay.

Your expectations are your thoughts not mine.

I’m the best me there will ever be, every day.

Believe In Yourself

 Believe In Yourself

I’ve been listening closely to you and here’s a question, do you believe in yourself?

Outwardly your words say yes, but it’s what you’re saying inside that matters.  What is that?

Do you praise yourself for a job well done, or criticize for not doing better?

Do you encourage yourself to take risks, or squash those thoughts because they are too dangerous?

Do you spend all your time supporting other’s dreams there’s no time to think about your own?

Believe In Yourself

Believing in yourself is one of the most important things you can do.  Without it you become an empty shell.  Nothing seems relevant and good fortune seems to avoid you.

Try giving yourself a pep talk throughout the day.  When a negative thought surfaces, don’t pay attention, instead use that to prompt a pat on the back.

You Deserve To Believe In Yourself

You deserve all the accolades you give others.  You deserve to be loved.  You deserve abundance.  You deserve happiness.  You deserve to live your dreams every day.

So why not start today with a simple affirmation from Louise Hay, “I love and accept myself.”  Repeat that throughout the day.

What If I Make A Mistake?

If you do make what you call a mistake, notice how saying “I love and approve of myself” refocuses you back on the behaviors instead of beating yourself up. Those mistakes soon become the lessons they were intended to be rather than an excuse to make yourself feel bad.

“How did it get so late so soon?” ~ Dr. Seuss

Expectations Create Your Experience

Why do the longest weeks seem short and the shortest weeks seem long?

It’s all about expectations.

Expectations shape and form your perception of the current moment.  Change your expectations and you change your experience.

Whether you’re facing a long week or short week as you read this, remember you shape your experience.  Will you savor the moment or waste it.

Your choice.
